Accident
/ˈaksɪd(ə)nt/
An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.
On 25th June, Mishka and I faced the true brunt of the word accident. As simple as it seems written, accidents are much more horrifying to live through. This happy-go-lucky over excited pupper was overcome by zoomies like she does most nights on our late night walks. There is no sophisticated or sensitive way of saying this but in her excitement Mishka jumped off the 6th floor terrace and fell all the way down to the basement.
In the pitch blackness, it took me a few minutes to even come to terms with what had happened and where she was. Even now rewinding through the events of that night seem so unimaginable, something out of a nightmare.
Within minutes she was rushed to the only open vet, given that it was past 12:30 am for immediate assistance. She was admitted to Paws and Tails, Vizag and was administered saline and painkillers.
Miracle
/ˈmɪrək(ə)l/
An extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency.
I haven’t said this enough but it is a blessing to have friends who support you through thick and thin. Those who stand strong, when you are at your weakest and I am lucky to have you as my friends. Thank you for being there when I needed you the most and continue to care for and support both Mishka and me.
A few days after the accident I went up to the terrace just to figure out what had happened to Mishka. But everything fails logic. Knowing her personality and her timid behavior it can only be boiled down to one super fluke freak accident.
Mishka is my little miracle baby. Even after three weeks it still baffles me how she survived that fall, but I don’t question it and only rejoice in the fact that she did! She survived and continues to be the strong, brave fighter that she has always been.
Within 24 hrs I got her discharged from Paws and Tails in order to take a second opinion as I felt much wasn’t being done to treat her. At the second vet I was informed that based on the x-ray scans it can be concluded that Mishka has no fractures and no organs were damaged, she suffered a dislocation of the vertebrae and some flesh wounds.
The dislocation at the spine resulted in the nerves getting compressed due to which she is currently paralyzed from waist below.
Prognosis
/prɒɡˈnəʊsɪs/
The likely course of a medical condition.
It’s already been three weeks since the accident but it feels like it happened just yesterday. For the past three weeks she has been on steroids to repair and rebuilt her spine along with some nerve generating injections and additional supplements to strengthen her immunity system. In another two days all medications will be stopped and it will be time to look for alternate routes for healing and recovering.
Mishka continues to be immobile at least for another 3 weeks till her spine heals after which I plan to start physiotherapy for her speedy recovery.
Future
/ˈfjuːtʃə/
A period of time following the moment of speaking or writing; time regarded as still to come.
There are many who follow our journey, our adventures and our daily hustle. Mishka and I will bounce back like we always do. Till the time we are together everything else is attainable and adjustable. We have our passions and we know how we want to live our lives. I would like to consider this as a bump or a learning curve only to be overcome and define a new path for ourselves.
We have received so much love and care and we are blessed to have so many well wishers across the globe that I will keep you all updated on Mishka’s progress!
