Sometimes you only have a day and you must make the most of what you got. If you are anything like me, you’d use those precious few hours to Travel and Explore as much as your resources and feet can carry you. While in transit from Chennai to Bangalore, I had a day halt in Pondicherry. Pondicherry now known as Puducherry is a destination where I wish I had more time to spare.
Varadharaja Perumal Temple

Starting my day right by visiting the intricate and mesmerizing Varadharaja Perumal Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This Dravidian style of architecture is still decorated and maintained with colorful frescos, intricate carvings, beautifully adorned statues and a feeling of magic.
Sit under the painted ceilings, supported by the grey pillars and feel the cool breeze that’ll bring the much-needed tranquillity. With the daily Aartis and Chants, get all your five senses an out of body experience.
Pichavaram Mangrove Speed Boat Tour

The next step of cleansing your mind after the calming visit to the temple is to insert yourself in the lush nature. Take the Pichavaram Mangrove Speed Boat Tour, the second largest Mangrove forest in India after the Sundarbans. Home to many species of birds and as the name suggests, Mangroves! The boat tour is roughly around an hour and will take you through the thickest swamps, Mangrove canopies and cruise through the glaring sun. Breathe in the pure and fresh air and move on to the next destination.

Auroville

If there is one thing Pondicherry is known for, it is Auroville! Created as an experimental township, it has been established as a centre for human unity. The premise of Auroville is to build a community that welcomes one and all, irrespective of all caste, creed, religion, nationality etc. just a community of harmonious and peaceful co-existence. Spend some time understanding the philosophical thought process of the conception of Auroville and channel your consciousness to attain a higher spiritual understanding. Even if you don’t understand or agree with their ideologies, it is still a peaceful place to unwind and reflect on your thoughts.
Promenade Beach

Keeping in trend with the day’s theme of serenity and tranquillity I ventured out to sit by the Promenade Beach for a sunset view. But before you check out the beach view, make sure you walk through the streets for some vibrantly coloured houses. Built in the French colonial style, the mustard coloured villas and boutique residences provide a picture perfect backdrop.
And with the setting sun came the end of my stay in Pondicherry and that’s a wrap for the One Day Pondicherry Getaway!
Stay Tuned for more upcoming vacations!
