Is it a millennial thing?

So many options, so many choices, so many decision and hence so much confusion! Is it with just us millennials or was it the case with everyone in this age range?

Parents these days have become super supportive, they encourage and motivate their kids to think out of the box and let them pursue their dreams however unconventional. Maybe that’s part of my confusion, cus now I have no restrictions and no boundaries, and the options are endless. With nearly 65% of its population under the age of 35, it is no surprise India is discovering some creative, entrepreneurial young adults.

Last week I went to watch The Headliners at Siri Fort Auditorium, featuring the very talented Neeti Palta, Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian, Sejal Bhat, and my favorite Sonali Thakker. It was my first stand-up in India and I was in splits for a good 90 minutes. Later it made me wonder, although these were the big names in the comedy industry, they were about my age with a similar educational background and there are so many others who are pursuing their talents and interests and aren’t sticking to the safe and preferred career path of engineering and medicine. Watching them perform gives me hope that India is beginning to accept and create a market for your passion as a career minus the stigma.

Now the issue I am left with is, given that there is an industry for everything and I also have the support from the parents, but what do I do? There are so many options that successfully keep me distracted. One day I want to make it as a freelance lifestyle blogger, the next day I see myself as an event organizer, which conveniently switches to a food critic or just out of fascination, a photographer.

Being 26 years old and still no concrete clue about what to do in life may not be the best situation to be in but there is hope. And this may also be a request to those who have figured it out to help the rest of us wanderers on how to identify our calling. Till then, I guess I can enjoy the dynamic diversity of varying careers until I find one unless the unconventional route is to try them all!
